The shredding cone is the one we are interested in as that is the one that is designed for cheese. It is a medium grade shred, and you can also buy a fine grade and a thicker grade shredder as extras if this is needed. So how well does the machine actually operate? To put it to the test we tried a variety of different cheeses, including soft and firm varieties. With a generous chute size, you don’t really need to cut the cheese down too much at all to get it in there. Simply pop your cheese in, put the food guide on top of it and put a little pressure. We should also add that the food guide is adjustable for a small or a large load. After that the motor inside does the rest, and it certainly does a fine job at this. All the varieties of cheese we tested were shredded in seconds, no matter how firm they were. A 2lbs block of cheddar took around 2 minutes to completely shred, which we were very happy with. Other kinds of cheese were no problem at all, and the machine did a sterling job at this. Since the unit is quite light, you can easily hold over whatever you need to cover in cheese which eliminates the need for a bowl. The only very minor complaint we have about this procedure is it is a little noisy, but then that is to be expected from a wired shredder. It is certainly no worse than any other wired shredder we have tested, so this is hardly an issue at all.
Aside from that we did one or two brief tests with the slicer cones. We tried out a cumber using the thin cone – this took around 15 seconds to completely shred, and we were left with some great slices for our salad. After that we tested the wavy slicer with a potato, and again we were very pleased with our cuttings . This took a few seconds to slice up, and we then salted and chucked in the oven to make some nice homemade potato chips.
Once you are done with your slicing or shredding, the machine is quite easy to disassemble. You simple need to unscrew the piece that holds the cone in place, then you can remove the cone. This along with the food guide can be put in the dishwasher as they are dishwasher safe. The main base can be wiped clean with a paper towel, and this is normally all you would need to do.
